Former SIS chief Peter Gašparovič is guilty of corruption – SME.sk

PEZINOK. Former head of counterintelligence of the Slovak Information Service Peter Gašparovič and Bratislava ex-policeman Ladislav Vičan are guilty of accepting a bribe.

Petr Gašparovič was sentenced by the Specialized Criminal Court to an 11-year unconditional sentence. He also imposed a fine of 50 thousand euros, in case of non-payment a 15-month substitute penalty. Also two-year protective supervision.

Former police officer Ladislav Vičan received a ten-year unconditional sentence and a fine of 40,000 euros, and in the event of non-payment, a one-year replacement sentence. He also loses his car.

“Directly for themselves and for another person, they asked for and accepted a bribe, they committed the act on a large scale,” said single judge Ružena Sabová.

She pointed out that Gašparovič asked the businessman Dušan Bočkay for at least 350,000 euros, while in the end 200,000 euros were handed over.

Judgment is not valid. Both Vičan and Gašparovič appealed.

The prosecutor of the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s Office is considering an appeal. He evaluates the decision positively. “I think it corresponds to the proposal and the considerations that were put forward in the indictment,” he said. Defense attorney Adrián Kucek does not agree with the decision.

“The evidentiary situation does not prove that the act which was the subject of the indictment happened,” he said.

According to the indictment, Gašparovič and Vičan were supposed to help revoke the preliminary measure issued by the Criminal Office of the Financial Administration, which blocked the property of the Bopal business company.

They were to help reverse the decision by accepting a bribe of 400,000 euros from the company’s boss Dusan Bockay, which they were to distribute to others. In the end, since they had not repealed the interim measure, only an advance of EUR 200 000 was to be paid.

If they found guilt in court, they were threatened with imprisonment for a term of ten to 15 years. Both declared innocence during the hearing. The prosecutor demanded an 11-year unconditional sentence, also a forfeiture sentence.

Among the accused were the former president of the Police Force Milan Lučanský or deputy SIS Boris Beňa, as well as other former representatives of the SIS and former high-ranking officials of the Police Force and the Financial Administration.
