The body of a man who was diving under the surface of a gravel pit near the village of Čierna Voda near Galanta was found on Thursday (October 21) after a week of searching. He is a former Žilina police spokesman Igor Mahut.

The police also informed that they had found the body of a missing man. “The search operation took place at the Čierna Voda gravel pit after our colleague, a 61-year-old police officer and a diver who is on duty at KR PZ Žilina,” she wrote on a social network.

Mahut and his colleague came to a popular place for divers last Thursday (October 14) afternoon. They put on professional diving equipment and went into the water. When Mahut did not get out of the water for a long time in the afternoon, his friend contacted line 158.

He said that a colleague is a diver with 30 years of experience and they drove together at a depth of about 30 meters. Igor Mahút drowned the day before his birthday.

The missing man was sought by divers from several units of the Police Corps, firefighters – divers with special equipment and a hyperbaric chamber. Czech police divers from the Presidium of the Czech Republic also actively assisted in the search, and soldiers from the Sereď Military Unit also searched the area.

“Today, the rescue services ended the search operation in the field. They managed to locate the man’s body in the water and pull it out of the water, “the police write, adding that an on-call examining doctor also intervened on the spot and the authorized police officer will begin a formal examination of the death as a crime.
