Žilinka temporarily suspended the performance of the function of Bystrík Palovič – SME – SME.sk

BRATISLAVA. Attorney General Maroš Žilinka on Thursday, he temporarily suspended Bystrík Palovič from the position of prosecutor of the Bratislava I District Prosecutor’s Office.

TASR informed the spokesman General Prosecutor’s Office Dalibor Skladan.

Palovič was originally suspended from 8 November 2019 as a prosecutor due to disciplinary prosecution for serious disciplinary offenses.

Žilinka suspended his post also on the grounds that he was being prosecuted for the crime of accepting a bribe, when he, as the supervising prosecutor, had to demand 100,000 euros from the accused person.

“For securing the decision of the superior prosecutor in its favor and at the same time deciding in favor of the accused, and for influencing the prosecutor acting in another of his criminal cases, which the accused refused,” Skladan added.

“I will not turn a blind eye to the serious suspicions of corruption proceedings against prosecutors, which absolutely defest the state of the prosecutor’s office and seriously reduce the credibility and reputation of the prosecutor’s office, and I will respond to them uncompromisingly,” Žilinka said.

According to media reports, the prosecutor is suspected of asking for a bribe of 100,000 euros for stopping the prosecution of Erik M., known from the Carlton case.

Bystrík Palovič senior, known for his contact with the convicted businessman Marian Kočner, continues to face disciplinary action.

In September, the Disciplinary Appeals Commission of the GP SR at its meeting in Žilina decided that the decision to dismiss the function will be discussed again by the first-instance second disciplinary commission of the GP SR.

Originally, the disciplinary commission removed Bystrík Palovič from office in November 2020. The reason was close contacts and bringing information to Kočner, who appears in several cases, but also illegal lustrations or ignoring the basic duties of the prosecutor.
