Installing Windows 11 on a PC equipped with an Intel Pentium 4 processor from 2006 is possible – Tom’s Hardware

Hardware prerequisites to install Windows 11 are rather demanding and require in particular a trusted platform module (TPM), in version 2.0; fairly strict criteria defended by Microsoft through the prism of security above all. In practice, they make – theoretically – incompatible a lot of processors yet far from being obsolete. Of course, as often, there are ways around all these obstacles. The user Carlos_SM1995 provides proof of this: he has succeeded in installing and running Windows 11 on a PC that is in principle ineligible.

This machine does not ship a Ryzen 1000 or a 7th Generation Core; it houses a much older processor, a Pentium 4. More precisely, a Pentium 4,661, a chip from the Cedarmill generation, marketed in 2006 and engraved, for the record, in 65 nm. This processor has a single CPU core with a base frequency of 3.6 GHz. The other components of this PC include an Asus P5Q motherboard, 4 GB of DDR2-800 memory, an NVIDIA Geforce GT 710 graphics card and a 120 GB Micron RealSSD C400 SSD. To successfully install Microsoft 11 on such an old PC, Carlos_SM1995 has disabled features like TPM, Secure Boot, VBS (Virtualization Based Security).
