Extremely difficult puzzle. This could be called the solution to the problem of connecting two independent highways – D1 and D4 so that people from around Bratislava can directly and easily connect to the highway heading to Trnava at the Triblavina junction.

According to initial estimates, it was expected that it would be built in five years at the earliest. Although it now seems that drivers will not have to wait that long for the dream junction, another problem arises. Namely, according to current plans, highways would have to supply the intersection during full operation of the D1. At the point where the motorways will connect, they will have to lift the highway to Trnava. That is why there has been talk of a new possibility – the complete closure of a key artery through which tens of thousands of cars pass every day, in both directions – to and from the capital. However, the competent authorities have determined the maximum number of hours that the highway can be closed. “The Contractor is obliged to observe a minimum period of 180 hours of complete closure of operations on D1. Full closure of traffic is only allowed during public holidays and weekends until 4.00 pm on Sunday, “ it is written according to the portal in modified documents. In terms of days, it is about a week during which no car could pass the section. However, highways have insured themselves and imposed severe penalties for each day of delay – in the amount of 5 thousand euros.

Plan B

In addition, they propose an alternative solution – if traffic were to be restricted in less than three lanes for each direction, the contractor would have to adhere to 640 hours during the day – so the closure could be daily from 6 am to 10 pm. In case of overnight restrictions, this is a maximum of 360 hours. Together, drivers would have to reckon with restrictions for 40 days and 45 nights. Here, too, the contractor has a knife under his throat in the form of a 5,000 fine for each day of delay. In addition, motorists allegedly expect restrictions on the branches from Jarovce to Trnava, for a maximum of 10 days.

For the time being, however, an earlier motorway connection is planned than originally planned. According to the document, in 650 days the section from Trnava to Vajnôr and the branch from Trnava na Jarovce should be completed in 750 days instead of 950. The entire construction would be accelerated by more than half a year. However, the national highway company did not comment on the whole matter. “Given that we want to ensure the principles of equal treatment, non-discrimination, transparency, proportionality, economy and efficiency in the tender process, we cannot comment further on your issues at this time.” said company spokeswoman Eva Žgravčáková.
