Diesel is coming to an end, Slovaks love hybrids. They outperformed them for the first time in sales – FonTech

Finding clean petrol or not even diesel engine is already challenging in today’s world. The vast majority of cars simply keep up with the times, and often add some form of electric drive to the combustion engine. This may also be one of the reasons why hybrids are so on the rise. From the beginning of the year to the end of September, a total of 58,719 new cars were registered in Slovakia, but electrified drives account for only about one-fifth of this volume.

However, September was crucial, with sales of hybrid, ie more environmentally friendly engines, surpassing the number of new registered diesel cars. 979 diesel vehicles were registered last month.

There were a total of 1,315 hybrids, of which 234 were diesel hybrids, 994 petrol hybrids, 18 diesel plug-in hybrids and 69 petrol petrol plug-in hybrids. Hybrid motorizations thus surpassed the diesel ones in our country for the first time.

However, petrol still dominates and in September 3,314 such cars were registered in Slovakia. However, pure electric cars are also on the rise, and in the ninth calendar month, there were 111 more beautiful ones on our roads.

Volkswagen dominates with sales

Statistics from the beginning of the year are also very interesting. We can pinch, for example, hydrogen propulsion, of which only one vehicle was registered in Slovakia. This is the Toyota Mirai, with which the carmaker demonstrated its advanced eco-innovation and on which Minister Sulík also drove.

An interesting motorization is also a combination of petrol, LPG and PHEV. There is also only one such vehicle and it is an Audi model. We have added 714 battery electric cars and the leader in their sales is Volkswagen.

The petrol plug-in hybrid is dominated by BMW, with a total of 726 sold and Bavaria contributing 103 pieces. However, most petrol cars have been sold since the beginning of the year, with 32,875 more on our roads. This is more than half of all new registered vehicles in Slovakia.

We are not ready for electromobility

It will probably not surprise anyone that the best prepared country for the onset of electromobility is Norway. There are already more than 300 000 electric cars registered in the Nordic country and interest in battery cars in this country has increased by 145% over the last three years, shows the analysis Zutobi Agency.

The agency also monitored the average cost of charging, simulating how much it would cost to fully charge a Tesla Model 3. Norwegian citizens will cost a little over € 4. The number of public chargers per 1 km is also remarkable, in Norway there are more than 35. Even almost 12% of all cars here are clean electric cars, which earned the Nordic state a score of 8.14 points out of 10.

Zutobi

If we look at Slovakia in this analysis, we have to go almost to the very end in the list of countries. We are the 9th worst prepared country for electromobility. Our score is 2.49 points out of 10 for several reasons. The first is the price of charging, in our country the driver would charge an average electric car (Tesla Model 3 with a 50 kWh battery) for € 8.80, which is more than double compared to Norway.

Another factor that plays against us is the number of charging points, we don’t even have two for every kilometer. Not even 1% of registered cars in our country are electric cars, but the positive thing is that in the last three years, interest in these vehicles has increased by 368%.

In total, there are more than 1,800 of them registered in Slovakia. Below us are, for example, our Czech and Polish neighbors, but also greats such as Belgium and Germany. The Belgians and Germans lose especially at the price of charging, which is even higher than in Slovakia. We are therefore far behind the leaders in preparedness for electromobility. If we omit Norway, the rest of the top in Europe is almost twice as good as we are.
