Carmen Farkašová was born on October 20, 1931 in Bratislava. She graduated from the grammar school in Komárno, she studied piano and singing privately. She graduated from the three-year drama department at the Bratislava Conservatory. Under the stage name Hana Hegerová, she became the first lady of Czechoslovak chanson.

She got her first engagement at the Petr Jilemnický Theater in Žilina, where she played five seasons. It was also discovered there by the composer Juraj Berczeler. He invited her to the Tatra revue in Bratislava, where Hegerová performed during the theater holidays.

From there, her journey led to Prague, where she was accepted to the just-founded Rococo Theater. Her greatest hit from the era at the Rococo Theater was the composition Milord with a Czech text by Pavel Kopt. The director of the Paris Olympia, who later organized her stay and performances in Paris, also heard her sing this song while visiting Prague.

She has been on a solo career since 1966. She starred in the films If a Thousand Clarinets (1964) and Our Our Czech Song (1967). In 1967, her first LP was released by Hana Hegerová. In the 1970s, she released the successful LP Reitál (1971), Recitál 2 (1974) and Lásko prokletá (1977).

In the 1980s, she was imprisoned for six months. She was one of the critics of the communist regime. In 1983, she returned to the concert stage. In 1987 she released the album Potměšilý host. From 2006, the selection of the biggest hits on the double compilation is All the Best. In April 2009, 2 CDs with a selection of songs entitled Paběrky a pamlsky were released. Twenty-three years later, in October 2010, she released a new studio album called The Mill Wheel in My Heart.

Due to health problems, she ended her concert activities in August 2011. In September 2013, Supraphon released the triple compilation Hana Hegerová Golden Collection 1957 – 2010.

Heger overcame a stroke and a heart attack, but later came a huge blow. In 2015, she lost her only son Matúš, whom she had with the theater playwright Dalibor Heger. “I can’t talk about it,” she told the media when they heard the tragic report. Her son died just a few months after reaching the age of 60. “It wasn’t cancer at all, but he had a deadly disease,” then revealed the singer in distress.

Hana Hegerová died less than 6 years after him. On March 23, 2021, she last exhaled in the hospital, where she was hospitalized for about a month after breaking her femur.
