Slovak opera singer Edita Gruberová died in Zurich at the age of 74 – Denník N

At the age of 74, the Slovak opera singer Edita Gruberová died in Zurich. She made her debut at the Vienna State Opera in 1970, ending her career the year before last.

Edita Gruberová was born on December 23, 1946 in Bratislava. From 1961 to 1968 she studied at the Bratislava Conservatory and later at the Academy of Performing Arts.

She left Czechoslovakia in March 1971, when hard normalization began.

She was an honorary member and Kammersängerin of the Vienna State Opera. In 49 years, she has sung more than 700 performances in Vienna. She was also the Kammersängerin of the Bavarian State Opera, the holder of state awards from Austria and Slovakia and a number of other awards, including an honorary doctorate from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava.
