Hundreds of people today in five Slovak cities, in Prague and also in Brno protested against the bill by Anna Záborská (OĽaNO – Christian Union), which the deputy is trying to make it difficult for women to access abortions.

The crowd in Bratislava chanted the slogans “My body, my choice” or “Keep your doctrines out of my vagina”. He also added the slogan “Anna, give me peace” in front of the parliament. Anna Záborská’s proposal reached the second reading at the beginning of October, with 75 deputies voting for the National Council.

In addition to the organizers, doctors Petra Kovarovičová and Tatiana Speváková also spoke, initiating a petition against Záborská’s proposal among health professionals. By Monday, it had been signed by 220 experts, including the chief expert for gynecology, the president of the Slovak Gynecological and Obstetrical Society and the president of the Slovak Chamber of Nurses and Midwives.

Doctors together with the organizers of the protest We will not silently criticize the proposal, especially because it extends the waiting period for abortion from today’s 48 to 96 hours, and after the new one should also apply to abortions for health reasons.

They also do not like the fact that the MEP is proposing to ban advertising for abortions, which, according to them, may cause doctors to stop publishing information about abortions completely. The repeal of the decrees proposed by Záborská, in turn, means that doctors will not know in which diagnoses they can make an abortion within 24 weeks of pregnancy, and therefore some will stop doing them completely.

Member of Parliament Jana Bittó Cigániková (SaS) was also on the protest. She claimed that she also invited Záborská to the meeting, but she did not come.

“We are standing together in this fight, not only today or tomorrow, but for as long as necessary,” said Zuzana Maďarová from the initiative We will not be silent. Anna Záborská’s proposal should be decided at a parliamentary session starting on Tuesday.
