Well-known Slovak singer died in Zurich – Info.sk – Current and independent news

At the age of 74, Slovak opera singer Edita Gruberová died on Monday in Zurich. This was announced by her family through the art agency Hilbert Artists Management, according to the Austrian public station ORF on its website.

The world-famous soprano Edita Gruberová was born on December 23, 1946 in Bratislava. In the years 1961-1968 she studied at the Bratislava Conservatory and later at the Academy of Performing Arts.

According to ORF, she made her debut at the Vienna State Opera in 1970 in Mozart’s Magic Flute as the Queen of the Night. Four years later, she performed in this role for the first time on the stage of the Bavarian State Opera. Her first international success in 1976 was Zerbinetta’s role in Richard Strauss’s opera Ariadne on Nax.

During her more than half-century career, Gruber has performed on opera stages in many countries, including Austria and Germany, as well as at the famous La Scale in Milan, the Royal Opera House in London, the New York Metropolitan Opera and the Paris Opera. She ended her singing career in 2019.
