OSLO. Five victims of the attack in Norway were killed by the perpetrator with a “sharp object” and not a bow, Norwegian police said on Monday, quoted by the AFP agency.

“At one point (the attacker) dropped or lost his bow and arrows,” police inspector Per Thomas Omholt told reporters. During the attack, 34-year-old Danish Espen Andersen Brathen killed “five people with sharp objects at private addresses and in public places,” he added.

Police had previously said the suspect was armed with a bow, arrows and two other weapons. However, the police then refused to disclose the details, saying that they were still questioning witnesses.

“All indications are that the victims (the attackers) were chosen at random,” Omholt said. According to the police, the perpetrator fired arrows at more than ten people, but did not kill anyone with this weapon.

At a police interrogation, Brathen admitted to killing five people and injuring three others.

The Danish citizen has publicly stated that he has converted to Islam, but the police consider the perpetrator’s mental problems to be the most likely motive for the attack. He is currently in a medical facility awaiting a psychiatric examination to determine whether he is legally responsible for his act.

According to Omholt, the investigation revealed that the suspect did not take his alleged conversion to Islam seriously. “We want to say that he did not follow the traditions that are common in this culture and religion,” he said on Saturday.

Brathen attacked on Wednesday, October 13, in Kongsberg, where he lived most of his life. According to the Norwegian news agency NTB, he has already been convicted twice – among other things for threatening his family members with murder or for robbery and sale of drugs.
