HBO announced today that it will shoot the first Slovak series from the Max Original production for the streaming service. The service is also preparing for the arrival of new competitors.

The new six-part series with the working title The Winner is filmed by director Jan Hřebejk. “The winner from screenwriters Zuzana Dzurinda (daughter of former Slovak Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda) and Petr Nagy speaks of a Slovak prime minister who is leaving his successful career as a politician and returning to normal life. He then finds out that he does not have as much power at home as he was used to in his position, “he describes the new HBO.

The main role will be played by Ada Hajdu, Ivana Chýlková, Milan Ondrík and Petra Dubayová. HBO emphasizes that this is the first purely Slovak series in which it participates. He will produce the series Etamp Film Production for the streaming service.

“The winner has a Slovak track not only in the person of the screenwriters and in the environment in which it takes place, but also in the person of the composer. The cast, which is with one exception exclusively from Slovakia, promises the best we can have at the moment, including the young generation, ”said Jan Bílek, a producer from Etamp Film Production.

Jan Hřebejk stated that it will be a family comedy, which is said to be written with great understanding for all the characters.

HBO Max is coming next year

HBO Max will offer content from Warner Bros., HBO, DC, Cartoon Network and Max Originals in Europe. It is to start in Slovakia in the first months of next year.

The big news is that the service will offer movies 45 days after their theatrical release. This also applies to Slovakia. The original HBO Go service in our market will end. HBO Max also offers surround sound and Ultra HD quality. The company says the streaming service will work on a new technology platform.

The service will be localized – even the current HBO Go offers content in Czech and selected titles in Slovak. There will also be applications for the service in Slovak and Czech.

Who will succeed in the fight?

Netflix is ​​also gaining paying customers, which is gradually locating the titles in the library into Czech. At the end of last year resumed its Voyo service also Markíza, which is investing more and more in the service and is also attracting to the previews of its own titles.
