JOVICE – The outbreak of the new coronavirus infection is registered in the marginalized Roma community (MRC) in the village of Jovice in the Rožňava district. As regional hygienist Jozef Varga said, this is a localized epidemic. “There are a total of 68 people in quarantine for individual households where there have been positive cases,” he said, adding that the quarantine was checked by police officers.

According to the Regional Office of Public Health (RÚVZ) in Rožňava, the first cases were caught by self-tests of primary school pupils. Based on these results, they contacted the intervention team of the Ministry of Health (MH) of the Slovak Republic, which performed PCR testing on 99 people. “Positivity was found in 43. Quarantine measures have been ordered and complied with,” stated. They did not record any new cases.

“We assume that it was a kidnapping from MRK Vidová, where we recorded an epidemic week before the first occurrence in Jovice, “ added Varga, adding that family ties were found among the inhabitants of these localities. RÚVZ Rožňava does not currently record another outbreak in this district.
