New Austrian Chancellor Schallenberg put an end to speculation: THIS is true about the alleged agreement with Kurz – Topky.sk

Schallenberg has denied speculation that he and his predecessor Sebastian Kurz, who resigned a week ago on suspicions of corruption, have agreed to leave him to the post of chancellor once the investigation is over.

“I will hold this office until the next elections to the National Council,” told the newspaper Wiener Zeitung. At the same time, however, he admitted that the main candidate of the ÖVP in the elections would, in his opinion, be Kurz. “I suppose so,” stated in this regard. “I came to the office of the office in an emergency. My goal is to bring back stability.” he added.

The new office wants to restore the shattered trust

In recent days, the Course has earned criticism for the fact that, although he has resigned as an office clerk, he can continue to control politics from other of his functions. In addition to the party leader, he also became the chairman of the parliamentary club last week and was appointed a member of the National Council. The course and nine other people and three associations are being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (WKStA).

According to Reuters, former Foreign Minister Schallenberg gave an interview to 13 different media over the weekend, stressing that he wanted to restore the shattered trust between the ruling coalition of the Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) and the Greens. According to him, it moves on “thin ice”, but it is still able to cooperate.

“In the long run, cooperation (in a coalition) will only work if we restore basic trust.” Schallenberg told Der Standard and Kleine Zeitung. “It is necessary to reckon with the fact that not everything will go smoothly, that other voices will be heard,” stated. “But if the main players agree, it can work. We have an extensive government program. We’re all on thin ice. That must be clear to all of us.” stated.

Schallenberg, appointed by President Alexander Van der Bellen on Monday, told Salzburger Nachrichten that he had proposed a private meeting of the entire government to “act as a mediator” to calm the current political situation. Healing “wounds” between the two governing parties and restoring mutual trust will not be achieved overnight, he told the Kronen Zeitung.
