Veronika Žilková was born on October 16, 1961 in Prague. He comes from the family of pedagogue and flutist Václav Žilka. At the age of seventeen, she became part of the dance and music ensemble Chorea Bohemica. After graduating from high school, she first began studying psychology, but eventually chose the Theater Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, where she graduated in acting in 1985.

Her film debut was the psychological drama Girl with a Shell (1980). She played the main roles in the episode of the series So I Ask (1982) and in the comedy When Divorce, So Divorce (1982) alongside Jan Čenský. Viewers could see her on the screens as the pioneering leader Jana in the family series We All Have a Duty to School (1984). She portrayed the daughter of the Czech composer Leoš Janáček in the biographical film The Lion with the White Mane (1986) and a year later she introduced herself as the fiancée of the poet Karel Hynek Mácha in the film The Magician. In the 1990s, she stood in front of the camera as a prison warden in the four-part television film Girlfriend from the House of Mourning (1992).

She won the Czech Lion award for her role as the dying Marjánka in Vladimír Michálek’s drama The Forgotten Light (1996). This prestigious award was also accepted by her acting colleague Bolek Polívka, who introduced himself in the film as a pastor fighting to save the church and spiritual values. She also earned a nomination for the Czech Lion for her main role in the fantasy film grotesque Otesánek (2000), directed by the prominent creator of animated films, set designer and artist Jan Švankmajer. The comedy series I Am a Deer or The Last Teacher in the Czech Republic (2000) about the marriage of a teacher and a nurse, who were affected by a lack of funds, enjoyed the audience’s popularity. Bohumil Klepl and Veronika Žilková performed in the title tasks. She played a woman whose relationship is falling apart in the film The Diary of a Mad Wife (2001) based on the bestseller of the same name by Irena Obermann.

The satirical program Tele Tele broadcast in the years 2000-2007, in which Žilková acted, became very popular. Although this sketch show provoked contradictory reactions regarding the quality of humor, it cannot be denied high viewership. Alongside actors such as Zlata Adamovská and Ondřej Vetchý, Žilková introduced herself in a film adaptation of Vladimír Páral’s novel Lovers and Murderers (2004). She played Saint Veronica in the fairy tale Angel of the Lord (2005), as well as in its sequel (Angel of the Lord 2, 2016). She also appeared as a stepmother in the film Twelve Months (2012). In recent years, it has been possible to see her again alongside Bolek Polívka in the fairy tale Alenka in the Land of Miracles (2018) or in the romantic comedy HUNTING (2019).

During her acting career, she has performed on several stages. In the Prague Drama Club, which was her home theater stage, she was a part of works processed on stage, such as The Family of Tots (1982), Midsummer Night’s Sex (1993), The Third Ring (1997), Summer Apartment (1999) and The Board Farm (2001). . Slovak director Martin Čičvák cast her in this theater in the productions Kukura (2011) and Urn na prázdném podějě (2016).

Adam Creator played Karel Karel Čapek in the Rococo Theater. In 2007, she won the role of Adina Mandlová in the production of Adina. The main role was entrusted to Veronika Žilková by the then artistic director of the Vinohrady Theater, Martin Stropnický, who is also her life partner and currently works as the Czech ambassador to Israel. At present, the actress can be seen in the Bez zábradlí Theater or in the Bolek Polívka Theater.
