SNCF: Will the new TGV menus appeal to you? – The HuffPost

TRANSPORT – Before taking the train, many people prefer to buy snacks upstream. The reason? The quality (and the price) products sold on board. This Friday, October 15, the SNCF has therefore unveiled a new offer that aims to be more “responsible” and “gourmet”.

Compote, small packets of cookies, tasteless sandwich, limited choice … Reviews of the on-board meal trays SNCF trains are recurring, especially when they concern the dishes served in the event of significant delays.

But from this Friday, October 15, the offer should improve. In a press release, the transport company announced the deployment of “more responsible, gourmet, innovative and committed catering” on its TGV INOUI and Intercités.

Croque monsieur “made in France” and pastries

SNCF relies on two arguments to which consumers are increasingly sensitive: “made in France” (94% of products used, SNCF promises) and products resulting from more environmentally responsible production: “44 % certified organic, from sustainable agriculture or from a high environmental value operation. ”

TGV users will therefore be able to taste their choice of a croque-monsieur “with pork ham without nitrite salt, Emmental with French milk” and “a bread made from French wheat flour”, “seasonal vegetables like butternut squash ”or even a“ vegetable toast with Comté PDO ”made by chef Alexia Duchêne. For dessert, chef Nina Métayer will be in charge. À la carte at Intercités, “dill marinated chicken bowl”, “Berry quinoa” or “organic goji berries”.

By next year, interactive kiosks will allow you to order directly in your car before going to pick up your order at the bar. There is still a great unknown and not the least: the price of these new more attractive offers. The SNCF did not communicate on this point, simply announcing a “low price menu”, entitled “The Express”, consisting of a sandwich and a bottle of water ”.

The end of plastic bottles

In the same spirit, SNCF also announced the end of plastic bottles in TGVs, favoring recyclable packaging in the name of ecology. “It was a real paradox that we put millions (of euros) to have TGVs that are 97% recyclable and that we sell plastic bottles there”, explained to AFP the director of Voyages SNCF, Alain Krakovitch.

Plastic bottles will be replaced by cardboard packaging for still water and aluminum cans for sparkling water, both sold under the name “L’Eau Neuve” and coming from the Pyrenees. SNCF sells 2 million per year in the bars of its trains, water being the second product sold after coffee. “We are in the process of setting up coffee dispensers” operating with pods, also indicated Alain Krakovitch.

SNCF, which aims to be an example of an ecological means of transport, also promises “the implementation of innovative logistics schemes to promote the recycling of costs in stations and reduce food waste”. Selective sorting will gradually be generalized on board.
