PRAGUE – Czech cyclist Roman Kreuziger ended his career as a road professional at the age of 35. In the world of cycling, however, he will continue to be the sports director of the Bahrain Victorious stable, where he will be primarily in charge of the classicists. He announced his decision to the media at today’s press conference in Prague.

Kreuziger decided to end despite the fact that he had on his desk an offer of an annual contract from the Gazprom-RusVelo stable, whose colors he defended this season. “After those two years of giving it my all, but the results I was used to didn’t come, I decided to quit. It was such a small signal that I moved into a slightly different role.” said Kreuziger.

One of the long-term best Czech cyclists ended his career after 16 seasons in a professional peloton. It is with Kreuziger’s name that the Czech highs in the places at the world’s most famous Tour de France and world championships remain registered. He was fifth on the Tour in 2013, and sixth on the championship in Innsbruck three years ago. In the successful year of 2013, he also achieved one of the most valuable triumphs in the form of winning the Amstel Gold Race.

There is no danger of depression

He had the opportunity to sign a two-year contract with the Bahraini stable, but in the end he decided only for a one-year cooperation. “We’ll see what it looks like. I’ve signed for a year to see if it’s going to fill me. It’s definitely not going to be bored now. I’m definitely not depressed about quitting.” uistil Kreuziger.

“I’ve spent sixteen years as a professional and I’m used to an active life. I can’t just stay at home, it would be unbearable with me, so I’m glad I can stay in cycling, and moreover in WorldTour. I’m looking forward to it, it’s a new challenge to life for me, “ added Kreuziger.
