British lawmaker stabbed multiple times

(CNN) – Conservative British lawmaker Sir David Amess was stabbed multiple times in a medical office in his constituency of Southend West, the PA agency reportedly reports.

Essex Police say they heeded a so-called “stabbing report” in the area.

In a statement, police said officers were able to reach the scene shortly after what happened, arrested a man and recovered a knife.

“The man is currently in custody,” they wrote on their official Facebook page.

“We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and we do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the general public. We want to thank the public who alerted us to the incident so quickly. We need anyone who has seen anything or has footage of CCTV, dash cam or doorbell please contact us. “
