WASHINGTON – Washington hockey players in the line-up with Slovak defender Martin Fehérváry entered the new NHL season with a 5: 1 home victory over the New York Rangers. With two goals and two assists, the Russian striker Alexander Ovechkin contributed to this, overcoming Marcel Dionne and moving to fifth place in the historical table of the best shooters of the competition.
Ovečkin achieved the 731th and 732th accurate hit in the NHL, his teammate Hendrix Lapierre scored first. Feherváry played for almost 18 minutes and recorded one hit in the statistics.
In the Canadian derby, the home team beat Toronto Montreal 2: 1, at the beginning of the third period the winning goal was scored by the Swedish striker William Nylander.
Vancouver lost on the Edmonton ice 2: 3 after separate raids, the winner was Kyle Turris. Thatcher Demko introduced himself at the goal of Canucks, the Slovak Jaroslav Halák covered his back from the substitute.
