On October 7, the Assize Court sentenced this Landais d’Ychoux to twenty-five years of criminal imprisonment for the attempted assassination of his neighbor, Saïd El Barkaoui.

Claude Gorsky appealed against his sentence of twenty-five years of criminal imprisonment through Me Anthony Sutter, his lawyer, this beginning of the week. After five days of trial, the Landes Assize Court, meeting in Mont-de-Marsan, had condemned him on October 7.

On May 20, 2018, Claude Gorsky, 69, fired five bullets at his neighbor while insulting him with racist terms. Fourteen days later, Saïd El Barkaoui died of a ruptured aneurysm. The sixty-year-old will be tried, from October 1, for attempted assassination

Jurors and judges had found him guilty of having, in Ychoux, in May 2018, shot his neighbor five times, calling him a “dirty Arab”. Saïd El-Barkaoui had survived before dying a few days later from a ruptured aneurysm. The racist nature of the crime and premeditation had been retained.

The Court of Appeal will resume examination of the case from the beginning before ruling on the fate of this 69-year-old retiree.
