COPENHAGEN – The Danish footballers, as the second European national team, made it to the final tournament of the World Cup. In Tuesday’s home match of the qualifying F-group, they defeated Austria 1-0 with a goal by Joakim Maehle in the 53rd minute. In eight matches, they collected the full number of 24 points with a score of 27: 0 and none of the opponents can knock them off the top of the table.

The Danes joined the Germans on the list of teams with the certainty of participating in the World Cup 2022 in Qatar. After a goal-free first half, the Copenhagen outcome was decided shortly after the change of sides. Thomas Delaney knocked the ball in the middle of the pitch, pulled it to the limit of the penalty area, dodged three opponents and passed Maehle, who scored the only goal of the match from the first ground shot to the post. This was enough for Denmark to win and seal the process, as it still did not collect in this qualifying cycle.

Only the winners of the groups will get directly to the world championship, the teams in second places will fight in the playoffs. Portugal, which defeated Luxembourg on its own soil with a score of 5: 0, will not end up worse than in the second position in the A-group. Portugal will compete for the promotion with the leader Serbia, who defeated Azerbaijan 3: 1 in the home match and leads by a point.

England did not take the opportunity to secure a place in the first two places as the leader of the I-group. At London’s Wembley, he only drew 1: 1 with Hungary after John Stones responded to the converted 11th guest Roland Sallai by half time. England is three points ahead of Poland, which succeeded 1: 0 in Albania. The fight in Tirana was interrupted for a few minutes at the end. After the leading intervention of the visiting Karol Swiderský, the Poles were covered by the home fans with glasses and both teams left in the locker rooms, but after a while the duel ended.
