At the end of the preparatory camp, his NHL club New York Islanders enrolled him.

“Islanders” offer the 30-year-old striker to other profilig teams, who can withdraw it from the list within 24 hours.

In case no one touches it, the Islanders have two choices. They will either send Pánik to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers farming team, where he will start a new competition year, or they will keep it in the staff.

They could then send him to the AHL in the next phase of the season without having to put a player on the waiver.

The Islanders acquired Pánik on July 17 from Detroit in exchange for defender Nick Leddy. Based on the agreement of the teams, the Red Wings retained a part of his 2.75 million salary, so the “islanders” pay the Slovak winger only half a year – $ 1.375 million.

Panic’s contract, which he signed as a Washington player, will expire after the 2022/2023 season.

Following the signatures of veterans Zden Chára and Zach Parise, the New York team has too many players with one-way contracts, in addition, it has approached the salary ceiling and needs to free up space in the budget. In addition to Pánik, he also registered defender Thomas Hickey on waiver on Saturday, the tsn.ca portal informed.

Panic has worked in the NHL and in the past in Tampa Bay, Toronto, Chicago and Arizona. He came to Detroit at the end of the basic part of last season from Washington together with the Czech forward Jakub Vrán.

He played twelve matches for the Red Wings, scoring four points for a goal and three assists.

The Czech defender Michal Kempný, who was sent there by Washington, also found himself on the waiver on Saturday. This increased the chances that Martin Fehérváry will start in the first Capitals team.

The “Caps” team has seven backs at the end of the camp, including the Slovak national team.
