The mayor of the Luník IX district, Marcel Šaňa, stated that the evacuated residents were provided with shelter overnight. “We accommodated them in the premises of the local office, went to relatives in the morning and waited to let them go home,” stated. Inspections continued in the apartment building in the afternoon to determine the extent of damage, especially to the roof. “We’ll see if it needs to be partially repaired or a whole new roof,” stated the mayor.

According to him, an estimated 40 people live in the apartments on the upper floors, and about 200 in the entire apartment building. “The crisis staff met in the morning and an emergency was declared, so we will do what is necessary to ensure that they get to the apartments as soon as possible.” said Šaňa. According to him, the injuries in the fire did not occur, the inhabitants managed to run out in time. To be sure, the night evacuation also affected the neighboring apartment building, but people could have returned to it.

In the afternoon, their inhabitants were able to return to the apartments, which were not directly affected by Saturday’s night fire in an apartment building in the Luník IX housing estate in Košice. The uninhabited flats remain damaged on the top floor, which, together with the roof, was directly affected by the fire. This was confirmed by the mayor of the city district Marcel Šaňa.

An estimated 40 to 50 people lived in the apartments on the top floor. “We offered them accommodation in the premises of the local office,” said Šaňa, noting that people found accommodation with relatives. The condition of the roof on the apartment building was inspected by a structural engineer during the day, and on Monday (October 11) he is to provide documentation. The mayor has not yet been able to estimate the amount of damage and the necessary extent of the repair, the expert company has to assess it. The state of emergency declared by the city district continues.
