There will be no shortage of Christmas markets in Bratislava this year: the pandemic will be adapted, such will be the conditions! – Topky.sk

The Old Town self-government is preparing markets on Hviezdoslav Square. However, it does not promise them to the extent that visitors are used to from previous years. There will also be a skating rink.

“Registration for commercial stands has been closed and successful bidders have been announced. In the coming days, bidders will sign leases. These days, registration is also underway for stands for non-profit organizations for symbolic rent.” Bratislava spokeswoman Katarína Rajčanová approached.

The regime of Christmas markets will be adapted to the epidemic situation

According to her, the regime of the city’s Christmas markets will adapt to the epidemic situation also with regard to the permitted limits on the number of visitors. Restrictions should be announced in good time in accordance with the current directive. “We are counting on the spatial definition of markets as a mass event and controlled inputs. Of course, if the situation is very critical, the city management will also consider the possibility of not holding the event. However, we are currently taking all steps to prepare it.” Rajčanová stated.

New, modern low-energy Christmas lighting

In the Old Town, the Christmas atmosphere should be completed by new, modern low-energy Christmas lighting. According to the mayor of the old town, Zuzana Aufrichtová, the city district does not want to avoid the joy that the gastrosector brings to market visitors. However, changes are also being considered here. For example, stalls should not form a kind of “arms” for market visitors, but would be turned upside down, ie with their backs to each other. This would give people more room to distract. According to the office, the concept of outpatient sales seems safe, the stands should be at intervals. The city district would also like to give space in them to operators from the pedestrian zone.

An ice rink will be missing

No stage for various cultural and musical performances is being considered for this year, there will also be a skating rink. “We appreciate the offer of the rink donor, but given the forecasts of the development of the situation, the rink will not be this year,” Aufricht said. However, there should be a Christmas tree on Hviezdoslav Square. It is possible that a second Christmas tree will be planted on the Rázus embankment.
