Are the opponents of the Wolf Force running out? After five days on the slope, I have had enough, says Gutová-Behramiová – ŠPORT.sk

Swiss skier Lara Gutová-Behrami was depreciated after unsuccessful seasons. In the previous one, however, she returned in style when she dominated the super-G standings, won three medals at the World Championships, and without bad weather, which deprived her of points in the speed disciplines in the World Cup finals, she could jeopardize Petra Vlhová’s overall championship.

She did not finish the last race in the giant slalom, when she lost two goals in the first round. While there was speculation about a possible boycott, the skier defended its premature end with fatigue.

“It’s not a moment I’d like to mention. I still remember standing at the start and feeling like I was missing something. Before the race, I tried to wake up and concentrate. But nothing worked out for me. I thought I could fall and get hurt, ” stated in an interview for NZZamSonntag.

The origin of mental discomfort and exhaustion is seldom stress from the competitions themselves or from opponents. Gutová-Behrami sees the behavior of the public, especially on social networks, as the cause of emotional tension and consequently bad results. “The pressure we feel as athletes often has nothing to do with the performance itself. It is a mixture of expectations, criticism and attacks on a person.

This leads to doubts about oneself, of which there are too many in the end. I know it’s very complicated, but I want the public to understand that an athlete is ultimately just a human being. In difficult situations, it would often require a little less humbug.

Of course, everyone can have their own opinion, but some people don’t think too much. They take their cell phones and tweet as if they were professors of everything. It’s okay if they have their own opinion. But does the whole world always have to know that? ”

Pressure from the company was one of the main reasons why Switzerland moved from her home country to Italy. She doesn’t like being boxed up like a crazy irresponsible teenager.

“It’s tiring and it’s getting harder and harder to deal with. That’s probably why I value my home in Italy. When you go abroad, you feel that the people there are more distant from you. If you don’t want to take pictures with them, that’s fine. You can’t afford that in Switzerland.

People in Switzerland do not always respect my privacy. That bothers me, I would like more respect. There are children in my family that I sometimes take care of and take responsibility for. Because I’m an adult. Many don’t notice and tell me, ‘You play a little adult by going out and buying a house, but in reality you’re still just the same skier.’ I have big problems with that. ”

In her privacy, the world champion in the giant and super-G suffers, which is why she does not use social networks. She says that this distance allows her to remain a top athlete. “Media work consumes a lot of energy, you have to do this and that … At some point, I realized that if I wanted to ski for a few more years, then I had to focus on what was needed. And that is the sport itself – training, climbing the mountain, skiing. Now I feel like life is mine again. ”

If I do something wrong, it hurts more

Gut-Behrami celebrated 30 years in April, and although she is a little older than her direct competition, with her growing age she knows more accurately than she needs to prepare for the new Olympic season. She admits that it is not as easy as it used to be, her strength decreases faster during training.

“I feel much more comfortable because I know what I need. But recovery times are getting longer, the burdens are different, and if I do something wrong, it hurts more. For four or a maximum of five days on the slope, there is already a ceiling for me. From that fifth day, the fatigue begins to be great.

I’m driving technically well at the moment, so I don’t have to drive very much. It used to be different, six or seven days in a row was no problem at all, sometimes the training blocks were even longer. Now, after five days, I turn off and go home. ”
