They capture the alleged new leader of the Santa Rosa de Lima cartel in Mexico

(CNN Spanish) – Authorities in Mexico announced this Friday that they captured last Wednesday the presumed new leader of the Santa Rosa de Lima cartel.

In a statement, the Guanajuato Attorney General’s Office identified the detainee as Fernando Emmanuel “N” alias “Panther”, whom it described as “one of the main generators of violence” who faced “multiple arrest warrants for various crimes.”

The Prosecutor’s Office did not specify where he was captured, but indicated that he was detained with a “very peculiar long firearm and various useful cartridges of heavy-duty weapons.”

Panther is the second “possible successor” of the alleged leader of the Santa Rosa de Lima cartel, José Antonio Yépez Ortiz, alias “El Marro”, to be captured. Yépez Ortiz was arrested in August.

The Prosecutor’s Office determined that Panther remains at the disposal of the authorities until his initial hearing.
