“We are always forgotten”. Midwives take to the streets for the fifth time in this year 2021, Thursday October 7. In particular, they hope to undermine what they consider to be a “lack of information”, a “lack of recognition” and one “contempt” of public authorities. And the latest salary increases (a bonus of 100 euros net and a salary increase of about 100 euros gross per month) have not convinced.

“In view of the technical nature of the studies that we carry out, the skills and responsibilities that we have, it is clear that starting at 1,600 euros … it’s just no longer possible”, protests Anick Rabaud, midwife of maternal and child protection (PMI) in the south of France, arguing that“today, this job does not make you dream at all”.

Their claims are simple. They want to engage “a reflection on the whole field of activity of midwives”, and that this reflection be accompanied in particular by the review of their status in the hospital and their maternity staff. They also want better identification in the course of care, details to AFP Caroline Combot, general secretary of ONSFF, one of the two main trade unions in the profession.
