Magnitude 5.9 earthquake shakes Japan, according to USGS

(CNN Spanish) – A 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck northwest Japan’s Chiba prefecture, which is located east of the capital Tokyo, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

It was recorded at an initial depth of 80 km. The earthquake was felt strongly in Tokyo, according to CNN crews on the ground.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the magnitude of the earthquake was 6.1.
