  • The Nobel Prize for Literature, like that for Physics, Chemistry, Medicine and Economics, is usually awarded at a ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden.
  • According to the official website of the international award, only two people declined the award. One of them is Jean-Paul Sartre, awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1964. He did not accept it because he had systematically rejected all official honors.
  • Boris Pasternak, the 1958 Nobel Prize Winner for Literature, initially accepted the Nobel Prize, but was later coerced by authorities in his native Soviet Union into rejecting the Nobel Prize, according to the official site of the Awards.
  • The Statutes of the Nobel Foundation stipulate, since 1974, that a prize cannot be awarded posthumously, unless death occurred after the announcement of the Nobel Prize. Before this regulation, only two people had been awarded the award posthumously. One of them was Erik Axel Karlfeldt (Nobel Prize in Literature 1931).
