Before the October fights of the Slovak national football team in qualifying for promotion to the World Cup 2022 – in Kazan against Russia and in Osijek against Croatia – the only newcomer is the striker Ladislav Almási.
The 22-year-old Bratislava native currently works at the club level in Baník Ostrava, before that he played in Chechnya in Grozny. In Slovakia, he gained experience in the highest competition in Ružomberok and Dunajská Streda. “Every training will be something new for me, I’m going to enjoy it and fight for a place. I’m glad to be here and I will try to repay you for the trust, ” announced the young finisher according to the official website of the Slovak Football Association (SFZ).
Almási was pleased with the invitation to the national team. “I work very hard at the club to deserve an invitation. It has come now and I am very grateful for that. I didn’t even breathe for a moment when I found out. I have to repay the coach with his performances, ” carried on.
He was doing well in Ostrava at the beginning of the 2021/2022 season, but he tried not to think about whether it would bring him an invitation to the national team. “I did not admit it. I told myself that when it came, it would come. I still have time for that. And since I didn’t expect it, I was even more surprised. ” revealed.
He also found several familiar faces in the cabin of the national team. “I know a few players, the younger ones – David Strelec, Rob Boženík, but I think in a few days we will meet the guys and it will be easier.” Almási remarked at the meeting of the national team.
In the fight for next year’s world championship, Slovaks are undergoing extremely demanding fights in Russia and Croatia. In order to keep a real chance of still fighting for the World Cup, they must get as many points as possible in October, ideally six.
The Russia-Slovakia duel will take place in Kazan on Friday, October 8, from 8.45 pm CET, the Croatia-Slovakia match in Osijek is on the program exactly three days later. Slovak footballers have scored nine points in the six matches of the 2022 World Cup so far and are third, the Russians and Croats have 13 points each.
