BANSKÁ BYSTRICA – The Olympic walking winner Matej Tóth will become the new director of the Military Sports Center Dukla Banská Bystrica from 1 November. The Ministry of Defense of the Slovak Republic informed about it.

Tóth replaces Roman Benčík, who ends up at his own request. “It is very pleasant to come to this position in such an atmosphere. I look forward to working with me, I will try to give Dukla the maximum I know. I will try to apply all my knowledge and experience and help athletes in particular – to create the best conditions for them, because they “We are the ones we are here for in Dukla. That is my greatest concern and my highest goal.” Tóth said.

Athlete Toth is an Olympic winner from Rio de Janeiro 2016 and world champion from Beijing 2015 in 50 km walk. He completed his last races on August 6, 2021 in Sapporo at the Tokyo Olympics and subsequently announced the end of his active sports career.

“Matej Tóth certainly does not need to be specially introduced. However, it is important that he has been working in the military sports center for 18 years. a new perspective and, as until recently, an active athlete and representative, will also pay attention to the needs and development of our athletes, “ The Minister of Defense of the Slovak Republic Jaroslav Naď stated in the press release and informed that the management of the ministry counts on further reinforcements in the management of VŠC Dukla from the ranks of top athletes. Former water slalom skier Elena Kaliská, for example, will work in the management of Dukla.
