How to install Windows 11 on an incompatible PC: Microsoft publishes an official method – Frandroid

Windows 11 is available for recent and officially compatible PCs. It is possible to install it on more machines, but we do not recommend the method.

Windows 11 is available. We tested it for several months and we were able to deliver a full opinion on this promising new system.

Now it remains to be seen if you want and if you can install it on your machine.

A more or less strict required configuration

As is fairly well known, Microsoft has reinforced the configuration required to install Windows with Windows 11. Here are the conditions imposed by the publisher.

• A 64-bit processor or SoC present on the list of compatible chips (1 GHz, at least 2 cores)
• 4 GB RAM
• 64 GB of storage
• UEFI support
• TPM 2.0 support
• DirectX 12 compatible graphics card with WDDM 2.0
• Screen at least 9 inches and 720p

The tool to check compatibility

To check the compatibility of its PC with Windows 11, Microsoft has put online “the PC integrity check application”. In one click, it lets you know if your PC will be able to officially install Windows 11.

Why we do not recommend this method

Microsoft has posted a method to install Windows 11 on a machine that is not compatible with the update. However, we do not recommend using this method and neither does Microsoft. If the company decided to authorize such installations, it immediately warned that the machines in question will not be officially supported by Windows 11. In other words, it will be possible at any time for these PCs. no longer receive any feature or security updates. To install Windows 11 with this method, you will also need confirm that you understand the risks.

Remember that Windows 10 will continue to be updated until 2025 and that there is therefore no urgency to install Windows 11 on your machine if not the attraction of the novelty. By 2025, your PC will probably be around ten years old and it will be reasonable to think about changing it, or installing a GNU / Linux distribution that will extend its life even further.

Our recommendation is therefore to keep Windows 10 on the machine. as long as Microsoft does not change positions or until Windows 10 end of support.

How to install Windows 11 on an incompatible PC

You might still be surprised to find the trick described below, since we don’t recommend it. First, the method is published by Microsoft which makes it interesting information. Above all, we prefer to publish a complete file which explains correctly the choice which is offered to you, in good conscience, rather than to feign ignorance and to leave this file on other sites, less scrupulous.

If you’re sure you want to install Windows 11 and know what you’re doing. Here is the method.

How to pass Windows 11 TPM protection

• Start the registry editor (Regedit.exe from the Windows search engine, shortcut: Windows key)
• Go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM Setup MoSetup path
• Right click> new> 32-bit DWORD value
• Name: AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU
• Value: 1

With this modification, it will suffice to install Windows 11 without waiting for the deployment to switch to the new system.

Here, it is a question of updating an existing installation to Windows 11. Microsoft notes that the installation from a USB key to make a clean and complete installation of Windows 11 will only make a partial check of the recommendations: TPM 1.2 au instead of TPM 2.0 and no verification of the processor model.
