The end of tensions between Paris and Algiers? “My wish is that there is appeasement because I think it’s better to talk to each other, to move forward. There are undoubtedly disagreements but life is made to talk about disagreements and also share them, “said the Head of State in an interview granted Monday evening to France Inter and broadcast Tuesday morning.

“There will inevitably be other tensions, but I think that my duty is to try to make this work progress” from memory, he added.

Algeria on Tuesday closed its airspace to French military planes, the latest step in a series of growing tensions in recent days.

Ambassador reminder

The Algerian presidency announced on Saturday the recall of its ambassador to France, after the broadcast by Le Monde of remarks attributed to Emmanuel Macron, who would have estimated that Algeria has been built since its independence on “a memorial income” maintained by ” the politico-military system “in power in Algiers.

A few days earlier, the Algerian foreign ministry summoned the French ambassador to Algiers on Wednesday after Paris’ decision to halve the number of visas granted to Algerian nationals.

France has justified this reduction in the granting of visas, which also concerns Morocco and Tunisia, by the fact that the three Maghreb countries are reluctant to issue the consular passes necessary for the expulsion of illegal immigrants.
