Hydrogen cars are still kept behind in contrast to battery electric cars. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t sold at all. There is also interest in the hydrogen electric car in Europe, as evidenced by the sales of the Hyundai Nexo. As the carmaker informs in press release, has already sold more than 1,000 of this hydrogen electric car on the old continent.

Compared to battery electric cars, the sales of the Hyundai Nexo hydrogen are no tern, but it is still the best-selling hydrogen car in Europe. Since the beginning of its production in 2018, the Korean carmaker has sold more than 1,000 units in Europe alone.

Nexo represents Hyundai’s second generation of hydrogen technologies. The first hydrogen car was the ix35 Fuel Cell. The annual production of the Hyundai Nexo reaches about 6,000 units, which is a very decent number due to the not very widespread drive technology.

It reaches most electric vehicles in terms of range

Hydrogen Nexo has a paper range according to the WLTP cycle at the level of 666 km. However, it has one big advantage over “flashlights” and that is that it takes less than 5 minutes to refuel a full tank. No electric car can match this figure yet.

In addition, they recently created with Nex new record, when it traveled almost 900 km to one tank. Brendan Reeves, the Australian Rally driver, has wanted to set a world record for a long time, but as he himself said, he did not expect it to be a record for reaching one tank with a hydrogen car.

With the Hyundai Nexo, he set out on the route from Melbourne to Broken Hill, and the on-board computer reported to him after arriving at the finish line that he had covered a respectable 887.5 km, breaking the previous French record of 778 km.

Of course, before the start, he was sealed with a tank for refueling, so that he wouldn’t think of refueling a bit of hydrogen somewhere along the way. The Hyundai Nexo has a paper range of 666 km according to the WLTP, so Reeves covered it by more than 200 km.

Interestingly, GPS and Google Maps have even shown that the distance traveled is 905 km, which is an even more impressive result, but data from the on-board computer are taken into account to recognize the record. The journey took 13 hours 6 minutes and the average speed was 66.9 km / h. In total, the car consumed 6.27 kg of hydrogen with an average consumption of 0.706 kg / 100 km.

It makes more sense in freight transport

Experts claim that hydrogen as a fuel is trapped in freight transport rather than in passenger transport. Better adaptation in this type of transport is also confirmed by data from European roads where trucks Hyundai Xcient has driven more than 1 million kilometers.

The fleet that has traveled Swiss roads for more than a year has reduced CO2 emissions by more than 631 tonnes, with 46 Xcient vehicles used by 25 Swiss companies. The Xcient truck received several improvements a month ago with the arrival of the updated version.

According to the carmaker, the renewed version is intended to provide drivers with a much better driving experience. At first glance, we probably all notice the renewed chrome radiator grille, which consists of hexagonal holes.

The range for one refueling is 400 km. This is not a dazzling figure, but refueling a hydrogen tractor takes significantly less than charging an electric car, depending on the outside temperature, from 8 to 20 minutes.

Currently, only one configuration of the second generation Hyundai Xcient truck with a 6 × 2 axle is available. However, the previous generation is still available in a 4 × 2 configuration.

Slovakia can be a hydrogen power

Slovakia can really happen hydrogen power. Paradoxically, it is not to this extent that the state deserves it, but the private company BCF Energy. It will build up to 40 hydrogen pumps within the network of Benzinol filling stations, it informs Slovak Hydrogen Association in a press release.

Hydrogen stations will not be built directly by the state, but by BCF Energy. The stations will grow throughout Slovakia, although the highest concentration should be in the middle and west of the country.

NVAS

Hydrogen stations will be built on Benzinol network pumps and are to be launched at the turn of 2023 and 2024. In addition to the sale of hydrogen, BCF Energy will also ensure its production. The great news is that it will be so-called green hydrogen, which will therefore be produced without any production of greenhouse gases.

Factories for the production of green hydrogen will grow in Modrý Kamen, Pezinok, Malacky and Trenčín. The four factories will ensure daily production of ecological hydrogen at the level of up to 4000 kg. The distribution of green hydrogen to service stations will also be green, with only hydrogen vehicles taking care of it.
