The winner of the International Peace Marathon is the favored Kerio Kenyan – Korzár Košice

KOŠICE. The 98th International Peace Marathon (MMM) has a male winner.

Kenyan Reuben Kerio ran 42 kilometers in two hours, seven minutes and seventeen seconds. It was the third best time in the history of the race.

Ethiopian Hiribo Shano Share finished second (2:07:48) and another Kenyan Albert Kipkosgei Kangogo finished third (2:07:52).

A great track record was born in the women’s part of the race. The winning Ethiopian Ayuntu Kumela Tadesse reached 2:24:35. and in about a minute and a half she improved the female maximum in these races, which she took care of before the pre-race
compatriot Sichala Kumeshi (2:26:01).

Home runners

The role of the home favorite among men was managed by Tibor Sahajda (2:22:02), who took the overall seventh place and added another title of Slovak marathon champion to the collection. He lagged behind Kerio at 14:44 min. Last year’s winner Marek Hladík (2.22: 44) finished eighth with a deficit of 15:26 on the winning Kenyan.

Sahajda admitted that he was really upset on the Košice track in sunny weather.

“It was a fight for life.” Ten “was burned out and I already knew it would be a pain, because I know what I have to do. When you don’t feel good in the first half, it’s automatically clear that the second half will be worse. in the side, I was embarrassed … I wanted to win at least the Slovak title. I gave my best, I couldn’t do more, “said the 30-year-old runner at the RTVS microphone.

He admitted that he had thought several times to resign during the race.

“I don’t even know how many times I wanted to give it up. That’s a marathon, it’s an unpredictable discipline. But I’m proud to be a Slovak unit, and I’m glad that my head held up to the finish line and I didn’t give up in front of the domestic audience,” he added.

Marathon again in a big way

The start of the main marathon discipline started on Sunday at 9.00 am.

“Last year, the marathon took place despite major problems. We are still struggling with them this time, but they are a bit smaller, “said MMM director Branislav Koniar for Sportnet.

A year ago, only 200 runners went to the alternative marathon track in Košice due to the situation with the pandemic. This year, the participants returned to the well-known track and mass character of the event.

In total, there were almost 7,000 participants, who were encouraged by thousands of spectators alongside the track.
