According to the information available to date, COVID-19 vaccines do not affect female or male fertility. Vaccination is also recommended if a woman is trying to become pregnant, or if she plans to become pregnant in the near future. The State Institute for Drug Control (ŠÚKL) informed about it on the social network.

Experts also focused on the topic of the menstrual cycle and vaccination. They pointed out that menstruation can be affected by various factors, such as stress, exercise, weight change, fatigue or lifestyle changes. “These factors can be experienced to a greater extent during the COVID-19 pandemic. Menstruation is also affected by gynecological diagnoses, such as fibroids and endometriosis, “said the state institute.

Disorders of the menstrual cycle, such as heavy menstruation, its delay or out-of-cycle bleeding, generally occur very frequently, according to experts, and may not be caused by serious health complications. It is for these reasons that it is difficult for scientists to come to a clear conclusion about the effect of COVID-19 vaccines on menstruation. In addition, the menstrual cycle can be significantly affected by viral diseases, including COVID-19, or any other change in health status, added ŠÚKL.

He also pointed out that menstrual cycle disorders also occur among reports of suspected adverse reactions to COVID-19 vaccines. However, similar reports have been reported with other vaccines, such as HPV vaccines. “Of the 8547 reports of suspected vaccine-related adverse reactions to COVID-19 prevention, 155 relate to menstrual disorders,” the state institute specified.

He added that there was currently no causal link between COVID-19 vaccines and menstrual disorders. However, the European Medicines Agency is closely following this issue.
The state institute recommends that if an vaccinated woman has experienced unexpected bleeding outside the cycle, or if her menstrual disorders persist, she should contact her gynecologist.

“If you are in doubt as to whether vaccination is right for you, ask your doctor,” the experts added.
