Rain, floods: Météo France puts Loire-Atlantique on red alert – The HuffPost

WEATHER – A department on red alert, 21 others on orange vigilance. Meteo France multiplies newsletters and the alerts this Saturday, October 2 because of a rainy disturbance of “exceptional character” with lasting and sustained rains ”concerning a large north-western part of the country.

After having placed, at dawn, five departments of the west of France on alert rain / flood: Loire-Atlantique already, Maine-et-Loire, Mayenne, Sarthe and Vendée then having extended vigilance to 15 then 22 departments during the day, the meteorological institute placed Loire-Atlantique on red alert for the evening, from 8 p.m.

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin called on “everyone not to leave” their homes, particularly in Loire-Atlantique. The minister who “remains in Paris this evening and tomorrow to follow the situation, according to his entourage, launched on BFMTV, a “warning message”, urging people in these departments “not to leave their homes”.

Gérald Darmanin also asked to stay away from waterways and seashores and to “pay attention to electrical installations”.

110 mm of rain expected locally in Loire-Atlantique

Paris and the departments of the inner suburbs, Yvelines, Val d’Oise, Eure-et-Loire, Orne, Vendée, Ille-et-Villaine, Morbihan, Eure, Seine -Maritime and Oise are also on rain-flood alert.

“Since 10am this morning it has fallen between 40 and 50 mm in Morbihan and the west of Ile-et-Vilaine”, specifies the institute before adding that the disturbance will re-intensify in the countries of Loire in the evening and extend to Normandy, Île-de-France and the north during the night.

The expected values ​​are globally from 40 to 60 millimeters in less than 24 hours, up to locally 50 to 70 mm in Upper Normandy, and up to 60 to 80 millimeters in Pays de la Loire. On the Loire-Atlantique placed in red vigilance, the forecast values ​​are of the order of 80 to 100 mm over the central half of the department, and could locally reach 110 mm.

At 4 p.m. this Saturday, Météo France also placed departments in the south of France on alert: the Loire (42) for strong winds; Ardèche (07) for rain-flooding and flooding; and finally Gard (30) and Lozère (48) for thunderstorms and rain-flooding.

A strong southerly wind will gust inland up to 60 to 80 km / h, or even 90 km / h, and up to 100 km / h on the coast. The following night, the wind will gradually weaken. In the evening, in the Pyrenees it will exceed 100 km / h, in particular on the ridges, while from Occitanie to the Massif Central, the Rhône valley and the Val de Saône it will reach 70 to 80 km / h, or even 90 km / h.
