The former president of Peru Alberto Fujimori was transferred to a clinic due to an oxygen saturation problem, according to his lawyer

(CNN Spanish) – The former president of Peru, Alberto Fujimori, was transferred to a local clinic on Friday night due to an oxygen saturation problem, his lawyer César Nakazaki reported this Saturday on Twitter.

Fujimori, 83, who presided over Peru from 1990 to 2000, is serving a sentence of 25 years in prison for the crimes of homicide, serious injuries and aggravated kidnapping, committed during his government.

According to the state-run Agencia Andina, he was convicted in April 2009 by a supreme court for the killings in Barrios Altos (1991) and La Cantuta (1992), as well as the kidnappings of a journalist and a businessman in 1992.

The conviction was unanimously confirmed by the First Transitory Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice in January 2010.

In addition, in 2015 he received another 8 years in prison for the crime of embezzlement.

Former presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori thanked with a twitter message the “concern and solidarity” for the state of his father. He also says that “he is already stabilizing.”
