The order in the coalition is about 400 million euros, which will be used to flatten the rise in energy prices. This was said by the chairman of the financial parliamentary committee Marián Viskupič (SaS) on the radio program Slovensko Sobotné dialógy. According to him, the result of the government’s efforts will be such that energy prices will only return to the level of 2020. Viskupič exchanged views with former Minister of Finance Ladislav Kamenický (Smer-SD), who, however, sees the economic situation all the more pessimistically. year will probably achieve record profits. According to him, they should also contribute to the recovery of public finances.

“The government is taking many measures in the component in which it can,” Viskupič said, referring to various energy-related charges. Among the measures to help flatten the rise in energy prices, he mentioned, for example, non-payment to the National Nuclear Fund for the next two years, saving on the operating system tariff itself or postponement of payments for solar power plants. “It was calculated for 20 years instead of 15,” Viskupič specified, adding that it saved 60 million a year.

“In any case, all such measures together amount to about 400 million euros, which will flatten the increases in energy prices and will not be significant,” Viskupič stated.

Kamenický criticized that this topic had been on the table for two months and that the discussion about it had to be initiated by the opposition through an extraordinary meeting. Kamenický emphasized that the opposition Smer-SD had initiated four such extraordinary meetings, at which he wanted to draw attention to various problems, but only one about the rise in energy prices opened up. According to him, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Richard Sulík (SaS) also escaped.

On the sidelines of the solution of rising energy prices, Kamenický highlighted, for example, the solution of the Czech Republic, which will introduce energy checks, or Spain, which will reduce the tax on electricity. He pointed out that there is a risk of an increase in energy poverty among low-income people. Viskupič added that the coalition is preparing a special preferential tariff for energy for the poorest citizens. For companies, he sees a solution in the envirofond, which has so far been underused.

Kamenický, on the other hand, also pointed out that the banks will probably achieve record profits this year, namely about one billion euros. According to the ex-minister, banks should also contribute to the recovery of public finances, which is why Smer-SD wants to reintroduce a bank levy. The bishop objected that healthy banks had greatly helped to overcome the corona crisis, and a bank levy would lead to increased costs being reflected in higher fees for consumers. However, according to Kamenický, this is still happening now and the banks are adding other fees of a nonsensical nature.
