The We Are the Family movement is ready to change the Constitution of the Slovak Republic so that a referendum on early elections can take place. This was stated by the Speaker of Parliament and the Movement Boris Kollár after the meeting with President Zuzana Čaputová.

He spoke with the head of state on Wednesday about the referendum, but also about the security situation in the state. According to Kollár, a proposal to change the constitution could be prepared in December.

“On behalf of the We Are Family movement, we declared to the President that we were ready to go to this great amendment. We are ready to make a change to the constitution and allow citizens to decide to express themselves in a referendum on shortening the election period so that they can also comment on this issue, “said Kollár, adding that there is also agreement in the OĽaNO movement.

Kollár believes that the government will prepare a constitutional law. “Mr. Fico is digging a door that is open. This is completely useless, because we are all convinced that the referendum should be open to the citizens. In order to amend the constitutional law, as the Constitutional Court said, we must change the constitution in this case and allow the citizens a referendum, “he stated.

“I personally have the opinion of the Minister of Finance and President OĽaNO Matovič, who has stated in the past that he is also ready to prepare this, so I think it will pass,” he added, adding that he confirmed to the President that he would prepare the proposal.

The head of parliament also spoke with the president about a working group to restore confidence in the rule of law. “We agree with a lot of points, except for two points, which are the division of the prosecutor’s office and paragraph 363, we are not willing to back down there,” he told reporters about the working group’s proposals.

On Monday (September 27), the head of state met with Prime Minister Eduard Heger (OĽaNO) and the chairman of the Direction, Robert Fico, to discuss with both of them the situation in the security forces and the overall atmosphere in Slovakia. In addition to Kollár, he is also to speak with the chairman of the non-parliamentary Hlas party, Peter Pellegrini.
