Mário Radačovský was born on September 29, 1971 in Partizánske. He studied at the Eva Jaczová Dance Conservatory in Bratislava. When asked why he chose ballet from the dance genres, he answered: “The ballet must have chosen me. It all went so fast during my studies. And there were a lot of subjects at the dance conservatory. Somehow it happened that the ballet became the one that won. Apparently it should have been.”

In July 1989, as a seventeen-year-old, he became part of the Ballet of the Slovak National Theater (SND), where he soon became a soloist. He belonged to a new generation of performers and demonstrated his skills in productions such as Faust and Margaret (1989), Romeo and Juliet, Carmen, Giselle, The Lady with the Camellias (all 1990) and Snow White and the Seven Racers (1991). For half a year he also worked as a soloist with the Ballet of the Brno National Theater.

At the invitation of the Nederlands Dans Theater ensemble, which was artistically conducted by the Czech choreographer and dancer Jiří Kylián, he traveled to the Netherlands in 1992. Radačovský became the first Eastern European to represent this prestigious institution. “Humility, hard work, perseverance and discipline. I think success in some form always comes. In 1999, he became the lead soloist of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens in Montreal. A year later, he returned to the SND as a guest soloist. He worked as the head of the SND Ballet from 2006 to 2010. In 2007, he worked as a judge in the Bailando – Dance for You dance show, which was broadcast by Markíza television.

In June 2010, he founded Ballet Bratislava, an independent dance ensemble focused on neoclassical ballet. In April 2012, with his contribution, the Dance Ensemble of the New Stage Theater in Bratislava was formed. Since the 2013 theater season, the artistic director of the Ballet has been the Brno National Theater.

Mário Radačovský is also known as a choreographer. His debut work The Letter (2002) as well as Inspiration (2002) and Train Station (2004) premiered in Montreal. On the SND records, the audience could see the ballets Zmena (2005), Stretnutie s labuťa (2007) or Warhol (2007). He presented the work entitled 68, the subject of which corresponded to the events of 1968, in the SND in 2008.

He composed the production Everest (2009) to the music of Pavel Hammel. For Ballet Bratislava he created a choreography about important women of his life called Monos (2012). As an author of dance creations, he presented himself in the performance Queen (2013) or in the musical Mata Hari (2013) at the New Stage Theater. In Canada he prepared the ballet Bolero (2006), he also signed the musical Maria de Buenos Aires for the National Operetta in Bucharest (2010), in the USA it was the ballets Romeo and Juliet (2011), Black and White (2012), Compulsive (2013) or Beethoven (2015). Among the ballet productions he created in the Czech Republic are Destiny’s Loves (2012), Slavonic Quartet (2014), Black and White (2015), Carmen and Together (both 2016), he was responsible for the dance version of the famous musical West Side Story (2017). , also about the ballet Romeo and Juliet (2019).

In 2015, Radačovský married ballerina Klaudio Bittererová and together they are raising a daughter. Three years later, he received a master’s degree in choreography from the Faculty of Music and Dance of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. Jiří Kylián is a professional role model for him.

I think that the level of my talent does not reach such parameters as Mr. Kylián, but I believe that I am at least able to get closer to him. As an interpreter, I know what is needed.
