The American singer R. Kelly was found guilty by a jury in New York on Monday of all nine charges, including extortion and sexual abuse. This is reported by the AFP agency.

After six weeks of disturbing testimony, a jury of seven men and five women consulted just nine hours before finding the 54-year-old singer guilty.

For decades, R. Kelly has faced accusations of sexual abuse. The verdict is expected on May 4. The American news station CNN stated that the singer can spend decades behind bars and is in danger of life.

The trial of R. Kelly began on Wednesday, August 18. He faced charges of extortion, child sexual abuse, abduction, bribery and forced labor. The singer, whose real name was Robert Sylvester Kelly, was supposed to commit these acts between 1994 and 2018.

The verdict came 13 years after he was acquitted of child pornography charges in the US state of Illinois. One of Kelly’s lawyers said they were considering an appeal and were disappointed with the verdict, CNN said.
