YouTube said goodbye to the controversial Igor Bukovsky. He canceled his channel – Živé.sk

• Dietitian Igor Bukovský has long downplayed the seriousness of Covid-19 and criticized government measures.
• He presented his views in videos on YouTube under the heading of his Clinical Nutrition Clinic.
• He lost his entire channel after several deleted videos. We do not know the exact reason yet.
• However, Bukovsky’s work did not completely disappear from the public information space.

Over the weekend, the YouTube video portal canceled the channel of the well-known Slovak nutritionist Igor Bukovsky. Almost since the beginning of the pandemic, he has been criticizing various government measures against the spread of Covid-19.

According to available information, the platform belonging to Google Bukovsky has already deleted several videos. We do not yet know the detailed reasons for the cancellation of the entire account. The information on the page where the account was located is very general: “This account has been terminated for violating YouTube’s Community Guidelines.”

Hoax about abortions

Igor Bukovský is one of the most publicly known loud critics on the topic of coronavirus. Covid-19 has in the past alleviated or openly criticized the obligation to wear a veil (also demonstrated by wearing the letter X on one’s own veil on television). Instead, it recommends strengthening the immune system – in the long run, it emphasizes vitamin D in particular, but attention straightened also for eating nuts. As part of his treatment, he defended the controversial antiparasitic drug ivermectin, whose contribution to the study compared to placebo.

According to available information, critics of the Bukovsky channel reported to YouTuba. Even with some of the videos already deleted, it is therefore reasonable to assume that the popular anti-nutrition counselor platform intervened precisely because of his views on the topic of coronavirus.

To cancel the channel called “Dr. Igor Bukovsky – AKV he pointed out blogger Roman Hanajík, who deals with the topic of misinformation and covid, but especially with Bukovsky’s claims.

He was one of the distributors of hoaxes in the topic of coronavirus. For example, he spread rumors in our country that after vaccination against Covid-19 in the first trimester, up to 82% of pregnancies ended in miscarriage. Also the circumstances of the origin of this untruth and its spread mapped out mentioned Hanajík.

Bukovský later apologized in this particular case, but did not download the record on which he presented the erroneous information from all platforms.

He is also criticized by colleagues

Dietitian Igor Bukovský is a trained physician, but he does not actively practice medicine and has not even had any attestation.

At the same time, the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic has shown the urgent need to prioritize the views of experts in the specific areas concerned. In this case, for example, epidemiologists or immunologists.

Although many experts have a doctorate, the expertise of each has its limits given by a particular specialization. And it is this fundamental aspect that a large part of the lay community is not aware of. Instead, they trust “false authorities,” such as people who refer to the eye as experts on a given issue, but are not really.

This is one of the reasons why Bukovský earned criticism from his own colleagues for his views. He outraged them, for example, by claiming that he himself was in the front line, as he provided information (in his videos) on the support of immunity free of charge. With this statement he beat question TV joj, whether he would go to the hospital to help himself in a crisis situation. He said this earlier this year, in the middle of the 2nd wave of Covid-19, which killed several thousand Slovaks.

Milan Kulkovský, the head of the internal department of the Hospital with a polyclinic in Považská Bystrica, also reacted irritably to these words (together with the statements of other controversial doctors). “Some people’s ego and self-confidence extend into space,” he wrote on Facebook.

He called the media wages, he himself got a stop sign

“Let’s call them wages,” Bukovsky suggested to reporters in a video in mid-September, as he said they “release an unbearable odor and pungent liquid” into their surroundings, similar to bristles, but do so for a fee.

The video was titled “The brutality and bias of the media is a reason to turn them off.” In the end, however, it turned out exactly the opposite, when Bukovsky was “turned off” by YouTube.

The dietician had over 150,000 subscribers on his channel, and his videos often had over 200,000 views. However, he lost this distribution channel for good.

However, his videos and their podcast versions have not completely disappeared from the information space. Bukovský publishes a fraction of his work (primarily of a non-opinion nature) directly on the website of his project AKV – Clinical Nutrition Clinic. Videos deleted from YouTub can still be heard on large audio streaming platforms such as Spotify or Apple Podcasts.

However, despite the current step, it is possible that Bukovský will continue to publish videos on YouTube. He has one more account (“Dr. Igor Bukovský: Life and the World”). So far, he has uploaded only six public videos, the channel has over 5,000 subscribers. However, if Bukovský does not change his approach – for example, if he does not increase caution in choosing words or the information presented itself – this account may suffer a similar fate.

We asked YouTube directly to provide a more detailed explanation of the current step. Bukovský himself has not yet commented on the recent event.
