CABLE. At least one person was injured in the capital of the eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar, where a bomb set off on the side of the road exploded on Saturday. This was reported by the AP agency, referring to a representative of the Taliban militant movement.

A Taliban spokesman said the injured person was a local government employee.

According to a hospital official in the provincial metropolis of Jalalabad, a bomb killed one Taliban fighter and injured seven other people, including four civilians.

No one immediately reported the attack. However, the regional branch of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization based in eastern Afghanistan has acknowledged responsibility for a similar attack in Jalalabad last week, in which 12 people were killed.

The Islamic State is also behind the bombing at Kabul airport, which claimed the lives of 169 Afghans and 13 members of the US military during the August evacuations.
