Catalan independentist Carles Puigdemont released from prison the day after his arrest in Italy

Arrested in Sardinia on Thursday, former Catalan separatist president Carles Puigdemont left Sassari prison in Sardinia on Friday at the request of Spain, which is demanding his extradition for the attempt to secede from Catalonia in 2017, reported a journalist from AFP.

Hailed by his supporters, he left prison without making a statement. According to his lawyer, he was allowed to leave Italy pending the next hearing he plans to attend on October 4.
