Fantastic result at the World Cycling Championships: Martin Svrček fought for a medal! – Športky.sk

LEUVEN – Slovak cyclist Martin Svrček took fourth place in Friday’s junior race with a mass start at the World Championships in Belgium. The title and rainbow jersey of the world champion was won by Nór Per Strand Hagenes, the silver was won by Romain Gregoire from France and the bronze went to Estonia thanks to Madis Mihkels.

Only 18-year-old Svrček competed with the Estonian for a bronze medal in the final meters, which he did not miss in the end. A new member of the Belgian Deceuninck-QuickStep profit, which he will join next summer, has once again shown great potential. The cyclist, who currently works in the Italian stable Franco Ballerini, has already won fifteen victories in the current season and finished in eighth place at the recent European Championships in a race with a mass start.

After eliminating a three-member escape at the end of a 121-kilometer track, the peloton did not resist the attack of the later winner, who attacked on the last ascent. His arrival was captured by the Frenchman Gregoire and the Italian Belletta. In the last 5 km in the final round, Hagenes showed great strength and won in a sovereign way. The Frenchman lost 19 seconds to him, Mikhels and Svrček after 24.

There were three other Slovak representatives in the starting field. Tomáš Sivok finished 80th with a loss of almost 16 minutes to the winner, the pair of Samuel Kováč and Samuel Tuka did not finish.
