Puigdemont arrest in Sardinia, Madrid: “He must submit to justice”

The arrest in Sardinia of the former Catalan independence leader Carles Puigdemont took place in compliance with an ongoing judicial procedure that “applies to any citizen of the European Union who must answer for his actions in court”. This is what the Spanish Secretariat of State for Communications states in a note, according to which the Madrid government expresses “respect for the decisions of the Italian authorities and courts”, underlining that the former president of Catalonia “must submit to action of justice like any other citizen “. Boye, who is in Sassari, then reported that “there were Spanish policemen among those who arrested him and that there was no border control, they went directly to arrest him”.
