Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G review: a real leap in performance

The Galaxy A52 released in the first half of 2021 offers an upgrade to the name of Galaxy A52s. A barely revised version of the smartphone initially available in 4G and 5G versions, and which is now content with a single 5G formula. We will refer you here to the test of Galaxy A52 5G, of which our device is the exact copy, except that it swaps its Snapdragon 750G chip against a Snapdragon 778G (G for “gaming”) also flanked by 6 GB of RAM.

For the rest, the A52 5G and A52s share a 6.5-inch Amoled screen, displaying 1080 x 2400 pixels and benefiting from a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Both are equipped with 6 GB of RAM, a 128 or 256 GB storage space, but also a quadruple back camera module (64 megapixels for the main one, 12 megapixels for the ultra wide-angle, 5 megapixels for the macro module and 5 megapixels for the depth sensor) . A 4500 mAh battery compatible with 25W fast charging completes the package. It should be noted that in terms of design, the A52 5G and A52s 5G are identical, but the second gains a new pastel green color.

If we have chosen to compare this A52s 5G to its predecessor, the A52 5G, it is also worth comparing it to smartphones at equivalent prices, such as the Motorola Edge 20 and the Xiaomi Mi 10T 5G.

Faced with them, it is clear that the A52s has benefited from a successful optimization, so that it gains both in velocity during a multitasking increase, but also and especially in the game. , the device managed to display up to 90 fps, without going below 77 fps, for an average of 86 frames per second. Suffice to say that the comparison works in favor of the A52s, which does much better than the 48 fps displayed on average by the A52 5G, and that the smartphone is quite capable of running the games of the moment without difficulty, using its Snapdragon 778G and 6 GB of RAM.

Who says new chip also says variation of autonomy. The A52s retains the 4000 mAh battery of its predecessor, and sees its endurance drop very slightly. If the A52 held approximately 22 h 30 min per charge according to our ViSer tests, the A52s saw its score increase to 20 h 53 min. This remains nevertheless more than honorable, and will allow the more thrifty to spend two days far from their charger. At this point, note that it always takes almost an hour and a half to refuel.
