Review: 3rd series Sex Education – REFRESHER

Unfortunately, after a few short good scenes, the creators returned to her posture and overly childish behavior. The reason for breaking up with Otis seems completely unworked to you, as if you were not watching adult students, but children in primary school. The character only served to make the story a little more dramatic and to give Otis another life lesson. On the contrary, the character of Ruby served as a springboard, moving almost nowhere.

We had a similar problem with a new Moordale High director named Hope Haddon. She basically plays the role of Professor Umbridge from the fifth volume of Harry Potter. He comes to the school with the important task of putting teenagers in order so that the school no longer appears in the media for sex scandals and incidents. Unfortunately, from the beginning it is clear how it will turn out (as with Umbridge).

Teenagers stand up to her because he fights them in archaic ways, forbids teaching about sex, recommends abstinence, and generally gives the uncompromising and reluctant impression of an extremely conservative person. He is not a bad person, but at the time she studied, it was not common for people to talk openly about sex and begin to understand people from the LBGTI + community.

In the audience, her actions create the opposite of sympathy, while she goes to re-educate the school in a somewhat counterproductive and awkward way. Although she is under pressure from other sides, the creators did not sufficiently explain her actions and did not justify her thinking at all. Like Ruby, she’s just a tool to move the story, coughing up the character of these characters (Ruby even appears for about 10 seconds after breaking up with Otis, which is a complete mockery of her character and character development).

The creators do not manage the relationship between Otis and Maeve at all, unless it is their relationship. Maeve is getting closer to Isaac, but it doesn’t turn out great either. We are not talking now about whether or not they can get together, but rather about the fact that they did not reconsider the development of their relationship, and again served only to give Maeve something to do until she was with Otis. These are the biggest problems we have with the 3rd series. In addition, the new parts are fantastic.

We also really enjoyed the dramatic moments, including the completely unexpected end of the 7th part. The creators are not afraid to affirm and examine the mental stability of the characters even outside the hardships of high school and relationships. They should definitely resort to this more often. The storylines around Otis’s mother and Eric’s trip to Nigeria greatly enriched the story, especially in terms of the new challenges that the characters had to face.

Humor has not been forgotten either, so you will have a good time here or there or just smile, which is enough. The actors are loyal to their characters and you often simply tune in to their note and enjoy ordinary dialogues, but also quarrels or ordinary, everyday situations. The third series has only 8 parts, which you will devour in a few days. We wanted to take a break several times, but the story and your favorite characters will force you to press the “next episode” button.

Although we have criticized the processing of the three characters, all the others are much better at it and you are extremely pleased with their storylines as well as how they were “finished” (at least in this series). You will also be pleased with the new character of the non-binary person Cal. There are many teenagers and adults in their problems. We believe that many viewers have tuned in to it. We think that the 3rd series of Sex Education is the best in terms of bringing the lives and problems of people from the LGBTI + community closer.

He points out and explains things really sensitively and meaningfully so that the viewer thinks about them both with his head and his heart, so we would not be surprised if many homophobes thought about their thoughts and opinions after watching the whole series. And for that, the creators deserve great praise. Not only for doing it, but for combining it with an entertaining, educational and functional format that fits into the concept of the series and moves the story and the characters in a meaningful way.

As you can see, overall we have very positive impressions of the 3rd series. The experience only spoils the processing of a few selected characters, but in addition, almost everything works. Relationships from previous series have evolved in unexpected but authentic ways, the plot is constantly shaped in such a way that it forces you to take an interest in it, but the series can still entertain and create an entertaining-educational impression. I wish there were more episodes in each series. We can’t break away from this series. That is why, despite the negatives mentioned, we give him eight and a half points out of ten.
