Bears seem to be at every turn at the moment. See them in the woods, at popular hiking trails and routes, but also at homes. Shortly before the weekend, however, Tomáš Malec, a member of Nové Mesto nad Váhom, brought important information – a bear and young people are moving around Kamenná. “A bear with a cub was just seen in Hájnošová near the muničák, be careful when moving around Kamenná and its surroundings in the coming days,” Malec shared the challenge of one inhabitant on the social network. He then stated that this was not a matter of misinformation, but the fact – the occurrence of the bear was also confirmed by hunters. He therefore called on the inhabitants of the town to be careful and published the recommendations of the director of the land and forestry department of the District Office of Nové Mesto nad Váhom, Vladimír Knapec.

He is also a member of the hunting company Preliačina. According to the hunter, the bear with the young was also seen on Monday in the vicinity of the mountain hut on Kamenná, and it is probably the same bear that was seen around Čachtice, Hrušov, Vaďovce and Krajný about three weeks ago. There, she fatally wounded a dog – a German Shepherd. Knapec also pointed out that it is currently illegal to shoot a bear. This is possible only under certain circumstances, which, according to Knapec, have not yet happened. He also thought about why he is moving around Kamenná.

“Conditions in the vicinity of Kamenná and towards Krajná are ideal for their occurrence, as there is plenty in the area food either from the forest or from the fields (corn, etc.). Due to their proliferation, bears are gradually being pushed into uninhabited territories, and if they were young males, the situation would be better as they are shyer. “ Knapec explained, adding that a bear with young poses a much greater risk to humans. This is because females are naturally more aggressive because they protect their young, even if they are not in direct danger and have no reason to attack. For this reason too, people around Kamenná should move in groups and not individually.

“Ordinary water (noise) is ideal (no need to bring 200 watts of sound system). Increase your attention when walking in the locality, as the cubs often leave the mother out of sight, move away, while the young begin to “whistle” at the mother (call her), begin to actively search for them and it is during these situations that people meet with the conservation bear. , ” added Knapec, according to which, if the situation does not worsen, it will not be possible to shoot bears, which would mean that they will probably settle in the vicinity of Kamenná or in the district towards Krajná. They have ideal conditions there. Another possibility is that they will move on, but according to the hunter, this possibility is still unlikely. “Hunters in the area (mentioned municipal districts) are acquainted with the situation, have photo traps installed at feed sites and closely monitor the situation, “ concluded.
